Shiʿa kalima within two concentric circles, ‘lā ilāha illā Allāh / Muḥammad rasūl Allāh / ʿAlī walī Allāh’ (‘There is no deity but Allah. Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. Ali is the friend of Allah’ in Arabic); in the margin, ‘bism Allāh ḍuriba hādhā al-dīnār bi Zabīd sana iḥdā wa khamsīn wa arbaʿa miʾa’ (‘In the name of Allah. This dinar was struck in Zabid in the year 451’ in Arabic). Rev. Within two concentric circles, ‘amara bihī al-amīr / sayf al-imām / ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad’ (‘Ordered by the Amir, the Sword of the Imam, ʿAli son of Muhammad’ in Arabic); in the margin, ‘al-imām Maʿadd Abū Tamīm al-Mustanṣir billāh amīr al-muʾminīn’ (‘Imam Maʿadd Abu Tamim al-Mustansir billah, Commander of the Believers’ in Arabic).
